Drip Irrigation: Savings and Performance

In Algeria's arid and semi-arid regions, water is the farmer's most precious resource. Drip irrigation, long seen as a costly technology, is now proving to be the most profitable investment for securing yields while saving the resource.

Field feedback from our projects in southern Algeria, where we have installed drip irrigation systems across several hundred hectares.

Why drip irrigation?

The principle is simple: water is delivered drop by drop directly at the base of each plant, through a network of drip lines and emitters. Unlike sprinkler irrigation, which waters the entire soil, drip irrigation only wets the useful zone.

Our field results

On a pilot perimeter of 800 hectares in El Oued, switching to drip irrigation cut water consumption by 40% while increasing yields by 20%. The return on investment was reached in less than two seasons, thanks to water and energy savings.

The conditions for success

A high-performing drip irrigation system is not improvised. It relies on a serious hydraulic study: flow rates, pressure, water filtration, and choice of emitters according to the crop and soil texture. This is where the expertise of an engineering firm makes the difference.
